Having been in network marketing for over 10 years now, I have often heard excuses as to why people either want to wait to start a network marketing or home business, or why they are taking the rest of the year off because they believe that working their business this time of year is a waste of time. However… nothing could be further from the truth!
Excuses for not starting or working their business:
- “I don’t have the extra money to start a business right now”
- “I am too busy with the holidays to devote any time to a business”
- “I can’t get hold of anyone during the holidays because they are too busy, so I may as well not bother calling”
- “Everyone wants me to call back after the holidays when they think timing will be better to start a business”
Reasons Why Starting and Building Your Business During the Holiday Season Makes Sense
You can write off your business expenses on your 2010 taxes, including start up costs and giving away your products as gifts to promote your new business.
- You purchase gifts from yourself, saving time and money.
- You can gain new customers and distributors by introducing them to your products through your gift-giving.
- You’ll set yourself up for a strong first quarter in 2011, by starting and/or keeping the momentum going in your business through the end of the year.
- Leading by example means that your team will continue building their businesses, making the first quarter of 2011 strong for everyone.
Why Having Multiple Options & Multiple Income Streams Is Smart
I learned the hard way when I first started in network marketing that having “all your eggs in one basket” is not smart. Having more than one company that you promote, as long as they are complementary and not competitory, makes good sense for many reasons.
Each company or product often has different strong times throughout the year. For example, SendOutCards sales are always extra high during the holiday season, when some company sales are down. My January SendOutCards monthly commission check is always one of the biggest of year.
As an independent business owner, having multiple income streams helps to keep income strong through out the year and also, if one source of income starts going down, or the company changes the product or policies, it’s not the end of the world – you have time to build another source to replace it.
Also, having multiple companies gives potential associates who might join you options as well. You may have someone who really would like to get started in a business, but is on a very limited budget, so having a low startup-cost company in your portfolio will allow you to help that person. That is one of the reasons I added a company that offers high quality, money-saving, environmentally-friendly products people use everyday to my portfolio – the company has a very low-start up cost Normally the start up cost is only $29 plus their first monthly order of products at the preferred customer price. Extended until December 16th, 2010, the $29 fee is only $1, so a person can get started in business for less than $100 right now, and only slightly over $100 any other time of year, while saving money with environmentally-friendly products.
